Shell Guidelines
These rules are to be
followed at all times while using your shell account.
Failure to do so will result in your shell account being removed.
The shell account access provided
with your hosting account is for management of your website.
It's purpose is not for general shell account use. Please keep this in mind
while using the account.

Distributed Clients
- absolutely NO distributed clients.
this includes seti, foldingathome, etc, no exceptions
Compiling
- you can use gcc, perl, python, and any other tools available for
compiling on the system
- compiles that take longer than 5 minutes to complete are not permitted
Networking Tools
- scanners, ping, traceroute, telnet
etc are for testing purposes only
- you must have permission to scan a system before using nmap or other
scanners on it
Password Crackers, Other
Hacking Activity
- no password crackers or other
hacking utilites will be tolerated whatsoever
- your account will be immediately suspended and a fine will be payable to reactivate
it if such tools are found
IRC
* irc access is expressly forbidden to
users with hosting accounts that include shell access
* the following irc tools are available only to irc shell users hosted
at our second location
- the most recent versions of
irssi and BitchX are made available for you
- bots such as eggdrop, mech etc must be registered with us so that we
may give you a listening port
- bounces such as psybnc must be registered with us so that we may give
you a listening port
- your irc client/bot/bounce must be configured so that it retries
connecting to the irc server at no quicker than 5 minute intervals (this
is especially important with bots/bounces!)
- if your irc activity ever gets the server attacked your account will
be immediately suspended and you may face a fine
General
- we ask that you please use a little
common sense
- this includes but is not limited to excessive resource usage and
general misconduct
- keep in mind that any abuse will only result in your account being
removed and restrictions getting tighter for everyone else |
